Description: This is a lovely lady's jacket from the late Victorian era, circa 1880-1890. It's black wool with an excellent black floral devore velvet front panel, and nicely tailored inset velvet pieces on the collar and sleeves. It closes with 14 beautiful faceted jet buttons.

Lined inside with black polished cotton in the bodice and brown polished cotton inside the sleeves. The jacket does not have boning but is so nicely constructed with princess seams and a rear peplum so as to best convey a teeny, nipped in or corseted waist.

Condition: Excellent clean vintage condition inside and out with no holes or other flaws.

Size Rare 18th Century Menswear Silk Embroidered Fancy Vest, circa 1780-1790

- SOLD!

Description: This is a rare find, it is an 18th century menswear vest in cream color silk, with fancy floral embroidered leaves and flowers in chartreuse green, dark brown and pink silk floss. Dating to about 1785, these garments (of more than 200 years of age) rarely survive intact today. This was discovered in a Vermont attic.

This lovely vest has beautiful handiwork and two decorative faux pocket flaps. The back is made of off-white muslin.

Condition: Offered as found. There are considerable signs of age and wear, notably there is foxing and light watermark stains throughout, and a few darker spots. There is deep darkening/soiling and resultant fabric deterioration on the upper back of the collar. The garment once closed with nine matching buttons made of wood with delicate hand floral embroidery, but only 3 remain: one in excellent shape, one hanging low, and one fabric button case that is missing its wooden form inside. The side seams have been repaired by hand on possibly more than one occassion by not the neatest hand, the stitches are clumsy compared to the tiny neat handiwork that created this originally.

Despite the condition issues, the fabric is solid, it is not shredding or shattering, and this is an amazing historical garment that is absolutely museum-worthy.

Size: A small size, the chest measures 36 inches, the waist 36, length is 24 inches from back of neck to lowest point of front side hem.

Given its rarity, age and delicate condition, I do not recommend that this waistoat be worn.

1860's Black Silk Bodice with Attached Capelet, edged in velvet and silk fringe, XS - SOLD!

Description: This is a lovely early Victorian lady's bodice dating to about 1865-1868. It is made of black silk which is trimmed in wide black velvet ribbon on the bottom and all around the edges of the attached cape, coming to a V shape at the waist. All the velvet is also edged with silk fringe trim.

The sleeves are slightly wide at the elbow, narrowing at the wrist, and undecorated. There are 7 decorative mesh covered round buttons, while the actual closures are 13 metal hooks and eyes up the front. Inside it is lined in polished brown cotton. There were 4 pieces of boning in the front but one is missing and another feels like it is in two pieces (they are sealed inside the lining).

Condition: There is a little wear at the neckline on both sides, where the black silk has lifted off the brown cotton underneath, very minor. There are also a couple of small splits that appear on a stitched line on the front of the bodice, vertically beside the buttons, and one on the upper back where the capelet attaches to the shoulder. Although these are on seam or hem lines, I feel the fabric itself is weak in those areas and it simply pulled away rather than stitches unraveling. The rip in the back is 1.5 inches long and in the front the flaws are .25 to .5 an inch. There is minor discoloring of the lining in the under arm areas.

Size: An Extra Small. The bust measures 31 inches, the waist is 24 inches, hips are 36 inches, shoulders are 15 inches, sleeves are 20 inches. The length is 22 inches including fringe.
